Sewing Instructions
Cut the front pieces (front top and front skirt) on fold once, and cut the back pieces (back top and back skirt) twice, mirroring each side. Cut the tie on the fold twice, and cut the strap four times.
EASIER (without facing/lining):
-
Finish the seams of the peekaboo section on the front top piece.
-
Stitch the front top to the front skirt and the back top pieces to the back skirt pieces. Overlock or zigzag the seams.
-
Sew the front and back skirts along the side seams and overlock the seams.
-
Sew the back of the skirt up to the zipper point and insert the zipper.
-
Complete the top seams and hem of the skirt.
-
Make the tie and straps. For the tie, align the two pieces with the right sides facing and sew around, leaving a small opening. Topstitch to conceal the opening and press flat with an iron. Refer to the sewing guide for making the straps.
-
Finally, attach the straps to the dress.
ADVANCED (with facing/lining): For a more professional finish, I recommend cutting an additional set of the front and back top for the facing/lining for the top part of the dress. 1. Sew the front and back top pieces of the dress along the sides, and make another identical set for the facing. 2. Make the straps and attach them to the dress (refer to the sewing guide). 3. Align the facing with the top of the dress, ensuring right sides face each other. Sew them together along the top seam and around the peekaboo section. Begin stitching ½” (1.0cm) from the center back, leaving space for attaching a zipper later. To achieve a smooth curve for the peekaboo, make small snips into the seams to release tension. Turn the top right side out and press it flat. 4. Stitch the front and back skirt together along the side seams, overlocking the seams. Sew the top of the dress (only the lining) to the skirt. 5. Sew the back of the skirt up to the zipper point and insert the zipper (only to the facing part). Conceal the raw seams of the center back of the facing by stitching it to the zipper inside. To do this, turn the facing inside out and stitch it to the zipper. 6. Overlock or zigzag the seams inside at the "waist." 7. Finally, make the tie and finish the hem of the skirt. For the tie, align the two pieces with right sides facing, sew all around, leaving a small opening to turn the fabric right side out. Topstitch to conceal the opening, then press flat with an iron.
